Today we have municipal corporations elections in mumbai and many other places in state.
Yesterday while talking to some friends about it, I observed a general feeling of apathy toward voting.
Somehow I was disturbed, because they were all people of my age. What will happen to the country if the educated and young people start loosing faith in democracy ?
Personally I strongly believe in democracy, I'm proud to be a part of it. Even statesmen envy it. We are the greatest example of a very deep-rooted democracy. We have a greater ability to sustain anti-social activities. We have so many examples to prove it.
You can not blame the system if you do not vote ! Your vote can make the difference. You have the right to ask the question then.
Think about it, you are the voice.

Come elections, we see the same old story - booth capturing, poll violence, vote buying, muscle power, communal polarization, vote bank politics…
Post elections, power may change hands, but the system remains scarily indifferent. Corruption, red tape, government apathy, criminalization of politics and a lack of governance and accountability exclude the possibility of real change.
During elections liquor, cash also blood flows at many places.
The rich who contest and the poor who vote for them are really involved. The middle class apathy is a bane of indian elections.
In addition to many already elected criminals who are now respectable members of Loksabha, the highlight is “Abu Salem” an underworld don who is now in jail is also contesting the elections in Uttar Pradesh, India.
Most importantly, a lot of people vote in India. Of course, some of these people are poor people brought in truckloads by the candidates but I think a lot of them end up making the right choice.
In the end, that’s what I think elections should be about - getting everyone involved in the races and having them care enough about the issues to take the time to vote…
It's time we stopped being silent spectators.
It's time we ensured that candidates with criminal records do not get elected.
It's time we made our vote count.
A National Campaign for Political Reform is a step in that direction. Its aim is to make people aware of the solutions to our political and governance crisis. A starting point could be reforms in our electoral process through the introduction of Proportional Representation, direct elections for the Head of Government at the State level and regulating the arbitrary functioning of political parties. These measures will enable honest and qualified candidates to get elected. And the election results would accurately represent voters' wishes.
The benefits are manifold. All that is needed is your interest and participation.
Did you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section "49-O", that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn't want to vote anyone! Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called "49-O". Why should you go and say "I VOTE NOBODY"... because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received "49-O" votes more than 123, then that
polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision
on them. This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way, of our whole political system...
It is seemingly surprising why the election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public....
Please spread this news to as many people as you know... Seems to be a wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India ... Show your power, expressing
your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful than voting... So don't miss your chance.
So either vote,
Or
Choose not to vote (vote 49-O)...
"So we, the people of India , can really use this power to save our
nation". Use your voting right for a better INDIA.
